Since the first camping weekend in April 1991 to Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire The Society of Framland Ringers have enjoyed outings just too far for a day trip from their base around Waltham on the Wolds Leicestershire. This year saw the last visit to Studfold Farm at Lofthouse, in Nidderdale, an excellent site from where three tours have taken in the local towers and delightful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. We are now seeking a venue for 2011 and invite submissions please from a tower with quality campsite attached. Members with children of school age have requested something closer to home. Once found we expect to use the same site perhaps three consecutive years. Recent locations have been Walesby, Lincolnshire, Castle Howard and Broadway in the Cotswolds. The final tour from Lofthouse on Saturday 10th July took us to Birstwith, Hampsthwaite, Beckwithshaw and St Wilfrid Harrogate. Beckwithshaw offered an opportunity for the group to experience Yorkshire tailends while St Wilfrid provided a fascinating glimpse of how a ‘modern’ church is constructed as we clambered through the inner walls and roof. The day ended, as always, with a Bar-B-Que back at the site. Thanks to our tour organiser Andrew Shipman for another excellent weekend.
