2010 Striking Competition

On Saturday 4th December 2010 the Society of Framland Ringers held their annual Striking Competition at Asfordby church. The competition allows the ringers (campanologists to the wider public) to demonstrate their skill especially with regard to speed and spacing of the bells. With 20 participants it was decided to have four teams of five and these were drawn from a hat on the night. The groups then had only a short practice ring as a team before the competition commenced.

The judge from Kirby Muxloe congratulated all bands on the standard of ringing and after reporting an 11% difference between 1st & 4th place he announced the places in reverse order. One quick minded participant was able to pre-empt the winning teams score at 72%.  The winning band was Neville of (Barrowby) Brenda (Loughborough), Ken (Croxton Kerrial), Mary (Bottesford) and Nicholas (Loughborough). The evening concluded with coffee and mince pies along with more ringing of the church bells. The winning team is shown with the shield at Asfordby.
